The Departments of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Management Information Systems are rich with research and development in such unique areas as traffic and logistics algorithms, autonomic computer and cloud computer, modeling and simulation, programming languages, operating systems, distributed computing, networks, and advanced databases. The UA Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory is an internationally known research group in the areas of digital libraries, intelligent retrieval, collaborating computing, and knowledge management. The group is known for its adaptation and development of scalable and practical artificial intelligence, neural networks, genetic algorithms, statistical analysis, computational linguistics, and visualization techniques. The AI Lab also does research on terrorism and terrorism networks and has helped develop marketable products for the law enforcement community, including COPLINK, nicknamed “google for cops”.
