Finding yourself in new surroundings can be an exciting experience, but also one that requires some time to adapt. Every year, transfer students make their way to the UA to join the spirited Wildcat family. If you're one of those students, we would like to extend you a warm welcome and let you know how glad we are to have you here! As you are getting accustomed to making your way around campus, it's important to know that you have a home where you can receive the information and support you need to make your transition to the UA as smooth as possible. That home is the Transfer Student Center, located on the fourth floor of the Student Union Memorial Center, Suite 402.
As a transfer student, you need to learn the same information and grow accustomed to navigating the University system just like any other freshman. But academically and socially, your needs are worlds away. The most important relationships you can have on campus are cultivated with the help of the Transfer Student Center. Our goal is to connect you with the resources you need to be successful in the remaining years of your college education. The center can offer you assistance with the enrollment process, course registration, campus resources and tips on how to efficiently navigate campus systems.
Keep in mind that it is also very important to have a strong line of communication with your academic advisor, who is assigned to you based on your major. Academic advisors help you make decisions about which classes are best for you to take based on your interests and graduation requirements. You can't graduate without the help and approval of an advisor!
For transfer students especially, frequent communication with your advisor is important to figure out how all of your credit is transferring. You must meet with your advisor at least once a semester during priority enrollment (the time everyone is signing up for classes). Doing so will ensure that you're still able to graduate in your preferred timeframe. The last thing you want is to find out right before graduation that you never finished your general education or foreign language credits!
Make sure to stop by the Transfer Student Center with any questions you might have, or just to relax in a comfortable chair and kill some time in between classes. The center's staff is ready to answer your questions and check in on your progress transitioning to life as a Wildcat.
