Representing Students

September 12, 2012

So how do you like the job?

KM: I absolutely love it! I am so honored and excited to be here. We’ve already been working on a variety of different things, and I didn’t know that it was going to be picking up so fast, but I think that we’re off to an awesome start.

Did you always know you wanted to be ASUA student body president?

KM: No, not at all. I didn’t even join student government freshman year, I actually didn’t know what it was until I joined on a whim. I applied during my sophomore year for a Spring Fling position and I didn’t even know Spring Fling was a part of ASUA. Sophomore year was the year that I fell in love with the culture of ASUA.

What advice would you give to a freshman or sophomore who is looking to find their place on campus?

KM: I would say honestly, just do a little bit of research and take the time to decide what is important to you. The ASUA Clubs and Organizations website lists all of the 500+ clubs on campus. Don’t be afraid to ask for help because there are so many different resources on campus and so many people who get excited when a student says, “I want to get involved in something.” Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

What makes you most proud to be a Wildcat?

KM: The students really have a lot of power here and work really closely with faculty, administration, and staff so we’ve always been easily able to voice our opinions. And that’s what really makes me so proud, is that you can come back in twenty years as alumni and say, “Oh I remember when my class did this,” or “When we did that,” and it’s really cool to just see how much tradition there is here.

Make a prediction for the football team this year. What’s the record going to be?

KM: Well, I think that they’re going to be better than last year, and I think it’s going to continue to get better because obviously it’s Rich Rod’s first year. I think that he’s been doing a really awesome job. He’s very team and family oriented and really wants them to be the best guys that they can be, and really wants them to excel both on and off the field – which I absolutely love.

So, my guess would be maybe we go to a bowl game. Maybe not the Rose Bowl, which would be like the ultimate dream! But I definitely think we could make it to a bowl game.
