Search by Name
In general, you may enter a search for a person with the "firstname lastname", or "lastname firstname". You may search with only "firstname" or "lastname" if it is unique enough. When you don't know the exact character string to be entered, you can ask for entries that are "sort of like" the one for which you're looking by using "wildcards" to search for a name. See Using Wildcard Characters to Search for more information.

Using Wildcard Characters in Search
Wildcard characters can be used to search. They are useful if you are not sure of the exact string to enter for searching. Examples:


Using a wildcard or '*' will  match any character, 
or no character at all.  
  
"jo*n" matches: "john", "joan", and "join", 
"jon" or "jonathan". 
Or you can use "jo*" or just "j*", but it may 
result in "too many matches". 

It works better when used with first name or last 
name, e.g. "j* steven". 

To match even more,
try "j* steve*" or "steve* j*".

Search by Email Address
If the person you are searching for has entered an email address into the system, then you can search for that person using the email box on the Advanced Search page. Examples:

Search by Office Phone Number:
You may search for a UA Employee by entering with his/her office phone number on the Advanced Search page. Examples:

Search by Department Name

You may search for all UA employees (including Student Employees) in a specific department by entering a department name in the search box. The results will show a listing of all employees within a specific department.

Click on the Department link to see a complete list of UA Departments.

Employee Information:
All active and retired UA employees are listed in the online phonebook. Directory information for every UA employee is considered public information and can not be removed from the phonebook under normal circumstances.

Student Employee Information:
The employee information is displayed for each UA Student Employee within the online phonebook. Students may choose not to display their student information, but the employee information will be displayed.

Update Employee Information:
The information provided within the UA Phonebook comes from several different sources. How to update the information depends on what type of information you need to update. See below:

Information on your official personal records can only be updated by submitting a Personnel Action Form (PAF). Contact the Administrative Assistant within your department for assistance with updating your PAF form:
- Office Address
- Office Phone Number
- Name
The following information can be updated through Employee Link
- Email
- Nickname
- Website URL
- Notes

- Department

Student Information:
The phonebook directory contains information on students who are currently enrolled at the University of Arizona. Each term that the student is actively enrolled in is listed along with their class standing and major.
The release of student information is protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) - Compliance Manual. Student may choose not to display their student information in the Online Phonebook.

The student information displayed within the UA Online Phonebook includes the information listed below.
- Name
- Type
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- For current and future terms of enrollment:
  - College
  - Classification
  - Degree and Major
  - Term
Students may also choose to display:
- Nickname
- Website URL
- Notes
- Update Student Information:
  Students must use Student Link to change the information displayed within the Online Phonebook.
  
  Students can change their name that displays within the Phonebook through the Registrar's Office. See Change Directory/Personal Information
- Remove Student Information:
  Students may elect to have their personal student information removed from the UA Phonebook using Student Link. The Personal Information section of Student Link provides a Privacy Restriction Form for restricting the release of your personal information. Information will be removed from the online directory within two business days.

Appropriate Use of Phonebook Information:
The UA Online Phonebook is intended to be a tool to search for university personnel.
It is inappropriate to use the phonebook for:
- sending unwanted or harassing email messages or spamming
- authenticating or authorizing users
- as a verification of UA employment
