We’re paraphrasing of course, but that’s how most UA students seemed to sum up commencement 2013.
Why were our graduates so excited? Maybe it was the fleet of food trucks that kept them full and happy? Or the preshow filled with senior pictures, video, traditions, and wisdom from well-known Wildcat grads? Maybe it was the inspirational speakers, the mammoth stage, and video boards that had their jaws dropping?
Let’s take a look back at a night that few Wildcats will forget.
Words of Wisdom
Speakers ranging from deans to regents to President Ann Weaver Hart and commencement speaker Robert F. Moran provided advice that students could use for the rest of their lives.
“I encourage you to use your peripheral vision, your openness to things outside your direct range of focus or expectation,” said President Ann Weaver Hart. “This is just the beginning. You have far more opportunities than you know and many that you cannot even begin to imagine.”
And, of course, the commencement address from Robert F. Moran, Chairman and CEO, PetSmart, Inc., was also chock full of practical, yet inspirational encouragement for grads.
“As you leave here, maintain a healthy disrespect for the status quo,” said Moran. “Keep digging for that better way to do something – because there’s always a better way… Always.”
Students enjoyed the speakers and the energy of the event. “All of the speakers were having fun,” said Sarah Reader, a communication grad from Torrance, Calif. “And I think the ‘U of A’ chants that broke out throughout the ceremony made me even prouder. You could just tell how much everyone truly loves being a Wildcat.”
The Grand Finale
And then there was the closing celebration (and dance party) in recognition of students’ hard work and dedication. Just watch this fan video to get a sense of the excitement.
“I had absolutely no idea what to expect. As soon as the finale started, the energy amongst the students just escalated exponentially,” said Zach Vito, a journalism grad from Tucson. “Everyone was so hyped, we all stood on our chairs and just cheered.”
Reaction on Facebook and Twitter was equally positive. Compliments like “The most awesome graduation ever” and “Let’s be real, my graduation was better then yours” came pouring in.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to join the UA?
