UA Math Professor a Champion for Higher Education
As an undergraduate, William Velez struggled with his studies.
"My grades were never very good, yet I was able to pursue my dreams and earn a doctorate in mathematics. Hard work is necessary, but that alone will not do it," said Velez, now a mathematics professor at the University of Arizona and the only Chicano faculty member in the department.
