Shelton Calls for Furloughs in FY2011

University of Arizona employees will be required to take up to three unpaid days off next fiscal year in an effort to close a $5.2 million gap left by a salary reduction mandated by the Arizona Board of Regents.

"No one likes the idea of furloughs," President Robert N. Shelton and Provost Meredith Hay wrote in a memo e-mailed to employees this morning. "Through sound fiscal policies the University has been able to avoid them the past two years, and it would certainly be our preference to avoid them for the coming fiscal year.
