Regents to Address Funding Disparities Among Universities
The Arizona Board of Regents plans to approve operating budget requests from the three state universities on Thursday, when it will also submit recommendations from the universities for a new funding structure that is based on performance and for addressing a disparity in the amount that each school receives per student.
The board is meeting Thursday and Friday at Northern Arizona University.
Once approved, the budget requests for fiscal year 2013 – which begins July 1 – and the funding recommendations will be forwarded to the governor and Legislature by Oct. 1.
The University of Arizona is requesting $314.3 million, which includes one-time funding for capital improvements to classroom facilities and technology infrastructure as well as one-time funding for community college partnerships.
That's an increase from the $263.7 million that was approved for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.
