President of the First College of Medicine Graduating Class Named Alumnus of the Year
Phoenix neurosurgeon Volker K.H. Sonntag, the president of the first class to graduate from the College of Medicine – Tucson, in 1971, has been presented with a University of Arizona Alumnus of the Year Award.
Sonntag is vice chairman emeritus of the Barrow Neurological Institute, located in Phoenix, and professor of clinical surgery at the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix. He has devoted his career to improving the understanding of spinal disorders and has received many honors for his research, professional accomplishments and community service.
"It is an honor to receive this prestigious award," Sonntag said.
Each year since 1943, the UA Alumni Association has recognized alumni and friends for outstanding achievements.
