New Unified Lab Safety Office Introduced

A new umbrella office has been created to handle administrative oversight of University of Arizona laboratory safety programs, taking over a job that had split among three different units.

Safety measures across campus will now be coordinated by the Office of Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Safety, Leslie Tolbert, senior vice president for research, graduate studies and economic development, announced last month. Heading the office is Daniel Silvain, who had served as head of the Radiation Control Office.

The office – now in the process of strengthening existing programs, initiating new projects and hiring additional specialists – will be responsible for the oversight of radiation, chemical and biological safety.
