Guest Column: Coping With Tragedy - Tips for Recovery

It is not uncommon for people who have been affected by a traumatic situation to wonder, "Is what I am feeling, thinking and experiencing OK? I feel that I have no control over these things!" I usually respond by asking them how often, if ever, they have experienced reactions to an event that is way out of normal day-to-day living experiences. It is generally unfamiliar territory.

Most people work through the effects of a crisis, such as we experienced a week and a half ago, and recover well. Some will have more difficulty, especially if the current crisis has triggered a past trauma experienced at another point in life.  read more »
