ASRS Yields Good News for its Members

If you are enrolled in the Arizona State Retirement System, here's a bit of good news for you: Because the rate of return for the last fiscal year was so high, your contribution rate is likely to decrease sooner than anticipated.

For the fiscal year that ended June 30, the fund had a net return of 24.6 percent, said ASRS Director Paul Matson.

In analyzing ASRS data back to 1975, the average return is 10 percent for any given year, he said, although some years were much higher and some were lower.

"You wouldn't expect a number around 25 percent very often," he said in an interview. "That's pretty rare."
