SAP-DI | Special Advisor for Diversity and Inclusion
Advancing inclusive excellence at the leading research university in the southwest
Sustaining a diverse and inclusive community is a responsibility we all share at the University of Arizona. President Robert N. Shelton created the Special Advisor to the President for Diversity and Inclusion (SAP-DI) position in 2010 as one additional means to promote excellence by infusing diversity and inclusion into the fundamental ways we, as a University community, do business.
The SAP-DI provides the President guidance on strengthening the University’s on-going efforts to build institutional capacity for inclusion and excellence in education, research, and community engagement. By providing leadership and disseminating research, information, and best practices the SAP-DI helps to create an equitable and inclusive campus community while serving as a clearinghouse for University’s diversity initiatives. The SAP-DI also cultivates University partnerships with external communities typically underrepresented in education.
