Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics

Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics is an interdisciplinary field involving chemistry, math, the physical sciences, and biology. Biochemists apply chemistry and the physical sciences to understand the molecular processes that define life. The field has spawned disciplines including molecular biology, molecular biophysics, and molecular medicine.BA students complete a semester-long senior research project under the direction of a faculty member. BS students complete a year-long senior research project. An optional pre-professional program leads to qualification for schools of medicine, dentistry, and osteopathy. The major is flexible and may be adapted to the student's interests. Career opportunities are numerous and include basic research, medicine, agriculture, industrial and pharmaceutical research, commercial sales, and law.
