The goals of the English major include knowledge of British and American literature; understanding the historical and cultural range of literature, the development of language in literature, the strategies of textual interpretation; ability to conduct and use literary research and to write clearly and effectively.

• Literature Major: British literature, American literature, Shakespeare, cultural literature, modern and contemporary literature, linguistics, rhetoric, literary analysis
• Teaching major and Extended English teaching major: language, literature and composition; teaching methods and student teaching; classics, drama, linguistics and journalism
